A meeting on Social Justice was organised by Government of Indian at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. This meeting was chaired by Honourable Prime Minister of India Mr. Manmohan Singh and presided over by the then Chief Justice of The Supreme Court, Mr. Y. K. Sabharwal. OFFER was recognised by the government of India to represent the NGO side of Social Justice and got a platform to speak considering the practical experience and performance during 21 years of working it field of Social Development.

21st Anniversary of OFFER

OFFER celebrated its 21st anniversary with Honourable Mayor of Kolkata as Chief Guest and along with him eminent people from the art, music and movie world joined us and appreciated the work being done by OFFER and wished us for continuing the development in the same spirit.

Workshop on Legal empowerment to combat Trafficking and HIV/AIDS

Date: 24th Sept.’06
A legal aid clinic for legal study, research and community support was inaugurated. Workshop and training s for legal empowerment of ‘Barefoot lawyers’ to combat trafficking and HIV/AIDS (Barefoot lawyer is a person who doesn’t hold a professional degree but has the knowledge of useful laws and acts. They counsel people and suggest the legal option available to solve a problem). A Local Area Network (LAN) of barefoot lawyers was established for providing legal guidance to sex workers for the protection of their Right to Health. OFFER partnered with National Legal Service Authority (NALSA) and MatriSangha Jankalyan for the event. A delegation of Supreme Court judges headed by Justice K.G. Balakrishnan, and the Executive Chairman of NALSA attended the same and participants were 51 community workers.

Anti Trafficking Movement

OFFER organised an Anti Child Trafficking Rally at Barasat to strengthen the system for stopping trafficking and child labour along with Bachpan Bachao Andolan (New Delhi) and other NGOs in West Bengal. About 5000 women and children participated in the same.

Workshop on Pedagogy System

Date: 21-22nd April’07
OFFER organised an workshop which presented the pedagogic system developed by Foundazione Patrizio Paoletti and discussed how it can be applied in schools and other educational contest. The topic studied include: the concept of learning to learn, the ideas of mediation and translation, the concept of emotional intelligence, the model of the trine brain, the role of the five senses in learning as well as the potential of data-based knowledge in contrast to information- based knowledge.
Summer Camp for Mentally Challenged Children

Date: 21st – 25th May’07
OFFER organized a summer camp during the vacation of Apanjan Day Care Centre. During the first four days children with disabilities were trained in various prevocational activities. There were interesting activities like making mask, making writing pad, snacks packaging. On the last days of it there was an exhibition in which the stuffs made by children while undergoing this training was exhibited and also sold. Along with that a cultural program was being organized in which children performed beautifully. These types of event help the children to be self-dependent and to raise their self-esteem as they become very proud when they see the stuffs made by them are being displayed and appreciated. There was an encouraging participation from guardians.

Seminar on HIV/ AIDS in Children

Date: 12 June’07

The facilitator of the seminar was IN charge of Paediatric HIV/ AIDS clinic, Apex Referral Centre Dr. Subhashish Bhattacharya. OFFER feels that awareness about HIV/ AIDS is the most important part to control the alarming rise. Dr. Subhashish Ghosh gave a presentation which included the Statistical, Technical and Social side of HIV/ AIDS. The presentation was quite informative and the feed back from participants (Staffs of OFFER, local gram panchayat, youth club) that they have gained a lot of knowledge and facts about HIV/ AIDS. Dr. Subhashish Bhattacharya said that apart from Medicinal support for a child with HIV/ AIDS nutritional support and Psychological support are also the important factor to our fight against HIV/ AIDS. He also briefed about the importance of up coming therapies like play therapy and animal therapy.
